Occupied

Posted on June 5, 2020

In January 2020, just after the mega-fires went through the Blue Mountains, I went to BigCi Artist Residency at Bilpin, NSW. I did this to be in the charred landscape and see how I could respond creatively to such a significant time in our history.

As a result I created 'Trashed' which is currently showing in Occupied at the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre.

'Trashed' has been created from cans, plastic and glass bottles thrown out on the side of The Bells Line of Road in a 30 kilometre distance from Mt Tomah a to Browns Swamp at Lithgow.

The extent of how much is chucked out on a scenic drive became more evident after recent bushfires cleared away trees and shrubs hiding litter along the highway.

Occupied runs from 2 June to 5 July 2020.
